Surf ClothingThere is basic surf clothing that every surfer needs – from footwear
to wetsuits, shorts and glasses. And then there are of course, items of
equipment necessary to ride the big ones. In the case of footwear flip-flops, sandals and thongs are comfortable, light and most of them cheap. You will want to change them regularly, not only for fashion reasons but also because of their intense use at the beach and in water. As a passionate surfer you will constantly come in contact with humidity and slippery surfaces.
Moving on, it is impossible for a true surfer not to have a wetsuit. That is the first thing you associate with him and when thinking about surf clothing. Especially designed for the “hydrophiles” on boards, it offers thermal protection in cold waters with seams that do not leak and sun exposure protection in warm waters. In each case they differ in thickness. What is more, they have different shapes, each with specific names depending on the area they cover: a jacket (covers arms and torso), sleeveless vest (covers only the torso), spring suit (aka shorty – covers torso and has short sleeves for arms and legs), farmer john (covers torso and legs), steamer (full suit which covers torso and arms and legs completely) and mermaid suit (just like a full suit only it brings the legs together like in a tail with a fin at the end). If you find all these complicated, too expensive or unnecessary for you couple of trips a year at the beach then you should consider one simple item: boardshorts. Surfer girls will be excited at the wide range available on the market. Surf clothing is not restricted to fabric. An active person such as a surfer needs his/her right things in hand, which means he needs to be practical. Dodge the powerful sun with a pair of sunglasses. They are essential when you scan the ocean for incoming waves; and try not to go cheap – protect you eyes! Wear a hat at all times in the sun. There are also those with a strap available for when you go in the water. Get a surfboard leash to prevent you board from hitting other surfers or swimmers (after you have fallen off it) or washing away to the shore. A backpack or a surf bag is perfect for longer trips in which you can carry your surf wax, extra dry clothes, maybe sunscreen, compact medical kit, a changing fin and so on. To top your surf clothing you can add some surf jewelry. But all in all, it is easy to look like a surfer, as both men and women’s
surf clothing is basic; there is no need to “adorn” yourself
in any way because that is not really important. What is important is
to work the board the right way on the waves while protecting your body.
